 Are there any effective treatments for psoriasis?
Psoriasis causes sore, red and scaly patches on the limbs, body and scalp and can affect around 2% of the general population. The cause is still unknown with lots of current research.
Treatments available include vitamin D derivatives, steroid creams, coal tar and dithranol creams.Light treatment can be prescribed which is then monitored closely unlike sunbeds. Tablets such as methotrexate which suppress the skin immune system can be very effective.
New injection biologic treatments are available and can be used if psoriasis is severe and does not respond to the above treatments.
